Ready to Get Scared? A Review of the Mr. Creeps Channel

The first channel that we are going to start this Creepy Month off with a channel that many of you horror buffs/lovers probably already know. This channel has 359k subscribers, and I literally had no idea that this was a genre. I occasionally delve into the creepier side of YouTube, but never a more horror story side of YouTube. More like landslides and tsunamis or "World's most isolated places" (judge me, go ahead. I'm judging myself.)

So where I started for this month’s theme was literally typing the word ‘creepy’ into the search bar. I was worried about what I may find. I’m not here for the dark web shit. Kids, steer clear. Part of being an adult is realizing sometimes ignorance just is bliss. You’ll learn. I promise. But then I came across a channel “Mr. Creeps.” Yup. That did it for me. I saw the weird, kind of disquieting photos as the thumbnails, and hook, line and sinker.

Before I delved into the videos I was partially interested in, I needed to read the comments. There’s just something about knowing what you’re getting yourself into. I came across a couple things right away. I kept coming across comments with a word ‘creepypasta’ (that may be a bonus blog this weekend. A fun topic that I found in my research. Most definitely going to delve into that one for those of you not usually into the horror genre. They're basically just scary stories.) Then I saw a couple people saying, “OMG, Becky. I love falling asleep to these.” (Maybe not those words, per se. lol) And this YouTuber does a 24/7 radio stream described more as stories to study to. Me, though? I’m still like, “Eek! What am I getting into???” You’d never know that House of 1000 Corpses and Texas Chainsaw Massacre were movies I used to fall asleep to in my high school days. I’m older, and now I know what fear actually is—reality sucks sometimes.

So enough of the dilly dallying—I finally settle in to review the channel and listen to one of the shorter stories, fully expecting to not be able to sleep for the next four years. Then something really weird happened. The creepy music started. I was here for it, though. Then this voice started talking. I was immediately bummed out. At first, I thought it was one of those computerized voices. I was pretty sure I was going to get through one video, and then move onto a different channel. But there was this out-there, somewhat disturbing picture on the screen, and I felt like “What am I looking at, exactly?”

Then I focused a bit more on the voice, and man, Mr. Creeps has this voice. He was made for scary story telling. Maybe I’m just an idiot, and his voice really is a robot, but damn he’s good. There’s this creepy, almost off-putting lilt to his voice. Dare I say, it’s like soothing? It’s almost disturbing that his voice is soothing because it’s very choppy? No, not choppy? More like, just irregular. He hitches his voice at certain points that make it just a bit unsettling. More robot than human. But it was overall pretty soothing. His is a voice you can just get carried away in. And I found myself starting to get sleepy—at like 7:00 PM. So instead of listening to another one, I had to get up and do something else for a couple minutes. Like shake myself awake. It was definitely strange.

Sidenote: I’m going to feel really stupid if this actually is a robot that’s reading these stories. Sigh.

So then I listened to one of the longer stories. And to do enough research, I listen to a story on the way to work while enjoying my coffee. I listened to quite a few. The stories – I like them. They’re good solid stories for those of you wanting to get into the Halloween spirit. And ok, fine. I was definitely scared at certain points. But there’s something more there too.

Not only are they good creepy, weird, or unsettling stories, I feel as if Mr. Creeps is kind of the safe bet to get into what people call creepypastas, or scary stories. Did I lose sleep after listening to any of them? Nah. I enjoyed them. (I was definitely creeped out at a couple--I won't lie.) Disclaimer: There are both fictional stories and true stories. Beware of what you're getting yourself into with the true stories. I think they're scarier than the fictional stories.

One of my favorite stories was one called “Be Careful Clicking on Pop-Up Ads.” This one hooked me. It was one of the shorter ones, but it was a good one. It makes you question, and it makes a chill run along your spine with the outcome of the character clicking on the ads. I absolutely recommend checking that one out. It was a pretty recent video.

Not only do I recommend checking out that story in particular, but Mr. Creeps channel itself. I’m a fan now. I subscribed. Unfortunately, for this creepy month of Channel Reviews, I know that won’t always be the case. But I am most definitely a fan of the Mr. Creeps channel. If I’m bored in the car, and there’s nothing else to listen to, I will absolutely check out another story or two. Not just this month, but throughout the year.

And Mr. Creeps, I recommend a career not only in YouTube videos, but audiobook readings. I would love listening to Stephen King’s books, or any books honestly, if you read it. You got this.

One last side note: If you're reading this, Mr. Creeps, you have to tell me if you program a robot to read these. Like DM or something... because, honestly, no voice is that perfect. I'm dying to know.

So for those of you just looking for scary stories randomly during Halloween, start at the Mr. Creeps channel. For those of you who love scary stories and haven’t come across the Mr. Creeps channel, also check it out. You definitely won’t be let down.

We're starting off on a great foot with this month's creepy-themed channel reviews!

Until the next one...

Channel Rating: 4.5/5

Scary Rating: 4/5

Content Rating: Not family friendly but rated for those of you that are into scary. I also don't feel it's mature content. It's just scary, but still doable for those of you over 12-13ish. (At least for the ones I came across).
